About LivabilityCalc

Our Mission

Moving to a new city is one of the biggest financial decisions you'll ever make. Yet most people rely on gut feelings, word-of-mouth, or scattered blog posts to make this choice.

LivabilityCalc exists to change that. We consolidate authoritative government data into interactive financial tools — mortgage calculators pre-filled with local data, salary equivalence comparisons, and property tax breakdowns — so you can make data-driven decisions about where to live.

Our Data Sources

Every number on this site comes from publicly verified, authoritative sources:

  • U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) 2024 — Population, median home values, median rent, household income, poverty rates, and housing occupancy data for 30,000+ U.S. cities and Census-Designated Places.
  • Federal Reserve Economic Data (FRED) — National economic indicators, mortgage rate trends, and inflation benchmarks.
  • Tax Foundation — State-level effective property tax rates, income tax rates, and sales tax rates.
  • HUD Fair Market Rents — Metro-area rental benchmarks used by the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

How We're Different

Unlike content-farming sites that fill pages with generic text, every LivabilityCalc page is an interactive tool. When you visit a city page, you don't just read numbers — you can immediately calculate your mortgage payments, compare your salary's purchasing power, and see tax implications, all pre-loaded with real local data.
